The island of St.Lucia has always had a special place in my heart, along with the many other couples that have chosen this Carribean island for their dream honeymoon or vacation.

For me St.Lucia is special because I lived on this island for 4 months during my college years while I participated in a student teaching internship at one of the local elementary schools. On the weekends I had the opportunity to travel the island and took full advantage of it’s amenities. Some of my best memories are of climbing the Pitons, dancing at the Gros Inlet Jump Up, snorkeling at Smuggler’s Cove, and taking a tall ship trip down the coast. Although I didn’t have the opportunity to enjoy the resorts while I was there (I was on a college student’s budget!), I did learn why it is such an amazing place and chosen by so many for their honeymoon.

Now as a St.Lucia Destination Specialist, I am excited to share more of this island with others considering St.Lucia as a possible honeymoon, destination wedding destination, or Caribbean vacation locale.

One reason that makes this island so attractive for the alter-bound is that there is no waiting requirement in St.Lucia, and couples can get married within a few hours of arriving. Those marrying at one of the resorts will be walked through the process by the hotel wedding planner on staff. However if you’re looking for something a bit more unique and personalized, you may want to consider hiring an independent wedding planner. Weddings in St.Lucia is one good website to start your research.

The possibilities for venues in St.Lucia range from private mountain top retreats to lush garderns to toes in the sand beach front. Jade Mountain, a “resort within a resort” at Anse Chastanet, found fame after being featured on “The Bachelor” reality show. Rather than having one dedicated ceremony area at Jade Mountain, you’re encouraged to explore the property and choose your own location. There is a great variety of locations at the resort, including a strip of beach, a hillside with Carribean sea views, plantation ruins, infinity pool terraces, and even underwater!

Another option for both destination weddings, as well as honeymoons are Saint Lucia’s three Sandals resorts: Sandals Grande St.Lucian, Sandals Halcyon Beach, and Sandals Regency La Toc. Each of these resorts offers Sandals Weddings by Martha Stewart, with six signature wedding themes at varying price points. All of them include a 2-tiered wedding cake, bouquet and boutonniere, a honeymoon dinner for bride and groom, marriage officiant, wedding consultant, the marriage license, and government fees and document preparation.

Any resort that you choose on St.Lucia is likely to have tons of activities on site to keep you busy. But I’d encourage you to venture off the resort’s property and experience activities and tours throughout the island.

One of my personal favorite ways to spend the day is sailing on the Tall Ship, Brig Unicorn, a 140 ft. replica of a 19th century brig. She was even used in the filming of “Pirates of the Carribean.” You’ll enjoy complimentary rum punch (and plenty of it!) as you sail up the coastline, docking at the town of Soufriere. There you’ll disembark and tour the Sulphur Springs, a famous drive-in volcano, the refreshing Diamond Falls, and lush tropical gardens before returning to the ship for a traditional Carribean lunch onboard. On the return sail the captain will drop anchor at Anse Cocchon for swimming and then sail through the stunning Marigot Bay.

The possibilities of how to fill your days are quite numerous and really depend on your own preferences. As a sampling, there are are ATV tours through plantations and rainforests, horseback riding tours in the surf and sand, whale watching cruises, multiple opportunities to snorkel or dive, historical walks, hiking through lush rainforests and up mountains, deep-sea fishing, and even zip-lining! Saint Lucia Now is a great website to explore to get a better feel for the many options available to you.
